Melts

Delicious Hot Sandwiches

Melts are wonderful, hearty sandwiches. And they are some of my family’s favorites. They are usually more filling than most other sandwiches – and they have warm, gooey cheese on them. What’s not to like?

What are they, exactly? Pretty much any sandwich with melted cheese on it. The first one that comes to mind is the good ol’ Grilled Cheese Sandwich. But you can do so much more than simply warm cheese on bread. There are plenty of variations, depending on the toppings you use. From various types of cheeses, to different meat options, to veggies like tomatoes, olives, caramelized onions or even jalapenos.

Since they are hot sandwiches, they are seen as more “formal” than their cold sandwich cousins. Plus, they are so nice to enjoy on a cold autumn or winter day.

Warm up with some hot cocoa and try some of my favorite recipes below. Like my husband’s favorite, the Monte Cristo.

But always feel free to experiment with my recipes. Use them as guild-lines and try your own combinations to see if you can invent a new twist!

Just think of this; if something sounds like it would taste good with hot, gooey cheese, then it’s a safe bet it would make a great sandwich.

My personal favorite is the ham and cheese. Try it with a cup of soup, or have one by itself. What’s your favorite?
